Garage A Tois Q & A with SaY. Garage A Tois is a group of highly talented and professional musicians. On their résumés are reference names like Roger Walters (Pink Floyd), Fred Wesley, Peter Buck (R.E.M.), Matt Chamberlain (Wallflowers) and the main-brain behind Primus, Les Claypool. SaY caught up with Mike Dillon of the group in between shows for a Q and A with one of the most creative jazz improv groups out there. Click here to read it.
SaY What: Alexa Woodward, Audra Mae, free tickets
A few stories you may have missed but probably shouldn’t have
Audra Mae puts her passion on the line for fans. She plays with the soul of the South, but she’s from California. She’s also got that 1960’s sound that you might have expected from Janis Joplin’s Big Brother and the Holding Company. Loads of reverb – so much that you’re certain she recorded in a bathroom. So much soul it hurts, and more passion than anyone should be willing to put on the line. Click here to read the story.
Alexa Woodward getting intimate with smaller venues. Woodward, a folk artists hailing from New York City, has a lineup of mostly Kentucky and Tennessee shows coming up, including Skull Alley, Ear X-Tacy, and the Preservation Pub. Woodward’s Americana/folk music is personal and these bars and small venues will make the shows even more intimate. Click here to read the story.
Free tickets to Buster’s on Nov. 4. That’s it. I’m tired of telling people about it. Click here to enter.
Samuel Stewart video “Devil Music”
I know that Samuel Stewart has nothing to do with my goal for this Web site, but I really dig this song and the video. And someone try to tell me that the drummer does not look like Hugh Laurie, the star of the television show “House.” Click here to download a Samuel Stewart MP3.

CONTEST: FREE TICKETS TO JONATHAN TYLER AND THE NORTHERN LIGHTS. I really can’t figure out why I only have one entry on this contest. Sure you haven’t heard of them, but they are damn good. It’s going to be a great show, and it’s unfortunately one day before I can make it to Lexington. People, what else are you doing on a Wednesday night? Don’t you dare say studying! Please, click here!
Matt Kurz had to cancel his show last night because of the flu. Hopefully he will be up to his Chattanooga and Athens shows over the next couple of days. Kurz’s extremities all have a dedicated instrument. His head will take full credit for the voice. His right foot can handle the snare and bass drum. His hands get into the guitar, cymbals and such. Oh, and his left foot – the bass. If you’re in Athens, it’s worth checking out. Click here.

SaY What: Dinosaur rock, Kanye West = ridiculous
A few stories you may have missed, but probably shouldn’t have
Imma let you finish reading, but first, this new Kanye West info. It seems anything West is interesting lately, because anything West is abashing and yet, awesome. While incredibly sad we have all come to citing TMZ, it’s fine when it provides entertainment, right? Meh. Maybe not. But you can watch West-a-la-douche break a camera and flash with his cronie here, thanks to TMZ. But this story on Pitchfork shows how it went down. West got community service for the attack, according to Pitchfork, who attributes it to, you guessed it, TMZ.
Dinosaurs rocking out the metal. I have been out of town and not reading the blogs, but I hopped over to Matt Jordan’s Web site, You Ain’t No Picasso, and saw he is in Finland. His trip provided some great photos of a group called Heavisaurus. It’s like that show The Dinosaurs. I mean it really looks just like that. Go ahead, bed-rock-n-roll.
SaY What: Check out The Whigs
Please check out Patrick Shannon’s story about The Whigs. I had it mislabeled as my own, and it was pointed out to me. He did a good job breaking down the comparisons between Kings of Leon and The Whigs and has a new track from The Whigs.
SaY What: The Whigs album info, Kings of Leon DVD

The Whigs new album
A few stories you may have missed but probably shouldn’t have
Kings of Leon has a new DVD coming out in a month or so. According to a news release, Kings of Leon’s first DVD: “Live At The O2 London, England” on Nov. 10, 2009. On Nov. 24 it will be released onBlu Ray. Get that tracklist here.
The Whigs have a new album coming. Hear a track from that upcoming album now. It’s due out in January, and SaY writer Patrick Shannon gives you a comparison between the Athens rockers and Kings of Leon.
Both hail from revered southern music towns, both play an infusion of classic southern rock and early 1990’s grunge rock, and both put on a live show worth the hangover the next morning. As The Whigs trail behind in success, we will soon see in their next album how and if they can differentiate themselves.

SaY What: Girl Talk, Animal Collective, free tickets

A few stories you may have missed, but probably shouldn’t have
10 downloadable Girl Talk bootlegs. Matt Jordan has a collection of them over at his Web site, You Ain’t No Picasso. “I’m constantly emailed by people who want me to put bootlegs back up for download, so hopefully this will make everyone as happy as can be.” Good effort. Check it out.
Louisville’s Backseat Sandbar is giving away tickets. I know, I can hardly stand the news of another one! You gotta love all these blogs giving away tickets left and right. Click here to check out the blog’s post about tickets to It Came From Indiana.
Animal Collective looking to save the seals. Yeah. I’m all for it, and tell me the picture on this Pitchfork isn’t awesome. “Given that they named their band “Animal Collective”, it’s probably not all that shocking that the members of Animal Collective would feel an affinity for wildlife,” the Pitchfork story says. It’s a new PETA ad, and you want to click here.
SaY What: Fruit Bats, Modern Skirts, Features
A few stories you may have missed but probably shouldn’t have
New video by Fruit Bats, and a free MP3. It’s a good video and anyone can use a free MP3 on a Monday morning. Click here.
